Fiesta 2009

Thursday afternoon I was reading the San Antonio Express and couldn't help but notice everything about the fiesta. It looked like so much fun, and I so badly wanted to go...especially to this, but also knew that there was no way Gerald would want to drive home and fight the traffic. S0 I knew we would have to get a room, downtown in our price range. During the last weekend of fiesta. Yeah Right! But since I wanted to so badly I started looking on Hotwire & PriceLine, Guess what..we found this hotel! [For $56.00!] Our trip was Planned!!!!

We left Saturday afternoon and arrived to our hotel at about 2:00, which literally was across the street from the alamo, and a five minute walk to the riverwalk. RANDOM STORY: When we were walking to the Riverwalk a homeless man asked me if I had any spare change, I said sorry I don't have any cash and you know what he asked me.."Well can I use your card?" WHAT??? I just kept walking..ANYWAYS Our hotel led right into a street on Alamo Plaza and across that into a back entrance of the Alamo.

We didn't stay at the hotel long, this was our first stop: We had a seat in the "Passion Factor Chair" Gerald was Frigid and I was Sexy!!!

The "world's tallest man" stood eight feet eleven inches!!!

This [full room]was at the end of the Guiness muesuem! Can you imagine the heaven Gerald was in???

We also made a wax mold holding hands:

Then afterwards we went back to the hotel to freshen up and get ready for the parade. We were so lucky to snag some tickets, as they were almost sold out. Our seats on the parade route were perfect!! Right across from them was where Time Warner was filming, the announcer was sitting and the Grand Marshall for the parade! The route was 2.6 miles long and packed to the max!! People were EVERYWHERE! This is just a fraction of all of them, they had expected 500,000 people to attend.

Prior to the parade they had a run, and the most creative "Costume" won a prize I think the "Runway Bride" should have won!!!

The Texas Band was the opening of the parade...
Bruce McGill was the Grand Marshall...

One of the MANY fiesta queens.....

....and if you can tell me who this is I will send you a piece of snail mail:

The parade was THREE hourse long, we lasted for the first hour and half then were too hungary so we bailed...and went to have dinner on the river walk at the County Line. We finished eating and started heading back to the hotel..and the parade was just ending!! It was LONG!!We stopped for this photo op, then went back to our room and watched all the people from our window, we were SOOOOOOO happy we weren't trying to leave!!! Can you See our hotel in the background??

We woke up Sunday morning had breakfast and hopped on to the trolly to head to "El Mercardo" or The Market Square

I guess Gerald REALLY thought he was in Mexico. The Shops on Market Square we're so much fun to just walk through and look at all the little treasures!!

The Cascarones are a great part of the Fiesta Culture. They were the official symbol for the 100th celebration, they date way back to the 1800's when they were filled with perfume powder and given only to royalty, they were found EVERYWHERE downtown, decorated all different ways!!

These were also so pretty called "Halos" not sure of the history, but I really wanted one and the boss said there were a waste of money, so the best I did was a picture!!

After the Market Square we checked out of our hotel and headed here:

It definatley brought the kid out in you!!! Wonder what that little guy was thinking??

Gerald's Highlight of the whole trip was when he got to "Forecast the weather"!

We enjoyed being lost in the crowd for a weekend!!! You should plan a weekend getaway too..even if it's only an hour from home!

  1. Looks like a lot of fun! And so weird, we came really really close to doing the same wax hang molding at the fair!! The lines were too long, or we would have done it! That is so funny!!
