Lighting Bugs

On Wednesday night Gerald and I went to Sonic for dinner. Unbeknowest to us they were giving away free root beer floats!! We had dinner got our floats and on our merry way we went!! I don't know why but for some reason I connotate RBF's with summer time!! Anyways Gerald decided to take Ranch Road 1 (back road in stonewall) home to enjoy the summer night with our RBF's.

He rolled the windows down and drove like fifty. The wind was blowing through my hair and you could smell the grass that the LBJ state park had just mowed. My arm was sticking out the window fighting the wind. I LOVE that feeling. We drove over the Banana Bridge in Stonewall, and could here the water running. The sun was just setting and for the most part the drive had been silent, other than the whooshing of the wind. Then a dog began barking and chasing the truck. Gerald said "so much for a peaceful drive" but I enjoyed that barking dog. Gerald shared stories of his childhood about "probably the same dog" chasing him when he was a kid and rode his bike across the banana bridge. I love sharing those moments with him.

We came up to Head Start where the Lighting Bugs were flashing like crazy. That moment took me back to my childhood with my brothers & Grandpa. Beneath the sky, just as dusk was turning to night. We're running through his perfectly manicured green lawn. The grass cool and prickly beneath my bare feet. Chasing lighting bugs. We tried so hard to fill the jar with lighting bugs. Kris always caught the most. And I probably didn't catch any. In that moment it felt like I could almost hear my Grandpa's voice. Like I could touch that memory.
Then we came up on the highway and the peaceful moment was gone and I was back to the hustle and bustle. The radio went back up and the thought of mail came to my mind.

I debated weather or not to share this with the blog world, but I did hoping that it will bring some memory back to you.
Sit and Cherish your memory for just a moment!
