History.

This weekend was all things free & cheap in Downtown Austin!! Friday night we packed up our bags and headed to George's!!
We woke up early Saturday morning [actually we were running late but it was early for us] for a Historic Walking Tour of 6th & Congress.

It was a 90 minute walk and we saw plenty of places and learned plenty of things!! We saw the first ever hospital in the City, and learned that Scarborough was the first person in the City to add price tags to his merchandise!! But by Far my favorite place we visited was Saint Mary Cathedral! It was the most beautiful and peaceful places we have been!!

The color's were so pretty!!

Of Course the Capital was on our tour!
After our walking tour we used our ACC ID's and cooled down at the Blanton Musuem of Art..Gerald's choice! It was for the most part...ehhh boring...the modern art section was actually very interesting!!

This was my favorite display, it was made of bones, metal, and pennies!!

After the Blanton we took George home, and then relaxed for a bit, and got ready for the Congress Bridge Bats! We had never seen them before and thought they were pretty neat!

Did you Know- The bats can fly up to 60 miles per hour, and eat up to 30,000 pounds of insects per night!

After the bats we went and had dinner at
Lambert's..Good but not great and a little bit to loud for my taste!! But the place wad defintaley rich with history!

After dinner I wanted to head to the Capital for some pictures!!

Add Image We were suprised by all the people still on the grounds at 11 pm!

My rendition of Congress, definitley need a tripod and telephot lens..I'm getting there!!

Sunday we woke up and had breakfast (or lunch) on South Congress at Guero's..It was yummy!!

Then we walked up and down the street for a while stopping when we were interested..This place was the best..

We both loved it, Gerald called it a "Fancy" garage sale...

Then we headed to the Faulk Library, and I combined my new love..photography..with an old one..books!! I could have spent all day there!!

After the library we finished our weekend at the Austin History Center, that was another pretty building!!

All in All it was a great weekend full of quality time and lots of History!!

  1. Very touristy Heather, I LOVE your red dress, and the pictures are great! You made me really love my city, and I think I might save the "6th and Congress Photo" for my carreer scrapbook, that's were I work!

I Love St. Mary's Cathedral, that is where I go, when I need to go to mass during my lunch hour, Ash Wednesday, you know! It is beautiful, and I have been able to attend some of the Bishop's services.

Again, Love the photos and love Austin!!
